New Bishop of Huddersfield and Bishop of Bradford appointed

Downing Street has announced the appointment of Revd Dr Jonathan Gibbs, the first ever Area Bishop of Huddersfield, and Revd Dr Toby Howarth, the Area Bishop of Bradford. The two new bishops were introduced today by the Bishop of Leeds, Nick Baines, at Leeds Station.

Joining Jonathan and Toby were their wives, Toni Gibbs and Revd Henrietta Howarth, together with the Archdeacons of Halifax and Bradford and senior clergy.

Statement from Archbishop Justin on Gaza

Following a recent update from staff at the Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, the Archbishop of Canterbury has spoken publicly of his concern for the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

Ripon Cathedral to install its new Dean

The new Dean of Ripon will be welcomed and ‘installed’ at a historic service in Ripon Cathedral this Saturday June 14th at 6pm.

Members will have received their copies of the Friends of Ripon Cathedral’s Annual Report 2013-2014, together with notice of the forthcoming Annual General Meeting which will be held on Saturday 28th June at 2:30pm in Thorpe Prebend House.

The New Dean of Ripon is Announced

Archbishop to give first St Wilfrid Lecture of 2014

Rt Revd Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York returns to Ripon Cathedral on Thursday February 27th at 7pm to give the first St Wilfrid Lecture of 2014 on the theme of ‘Beyond War and Conflict: Building Communities of Peace and Reconciliation’.

Bishop of Bradford to be Bishop of brand new Diocese for Yorkshire

Downing Street has announced that the Rt Revd Nick Baines, the Bishop of Bradford, will be the first Church of England Bishop of Leeds for the new Diocese of West Yorkshire & the Dales.

Friends join in Christmas Food & Gift Fair

In what we hope will become a regular event, members of the Friends volunteered to help at the door for this year’s Christmas Gift and Food Fair held on 24th November.

The Fair is held every year by the Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign (RCDC).

This year the Fair was especially successful, with an extension in the Old Deanery, more space for visitors and a wide range of festive entertainment.

Crocodiles in Cream 12th October 2012

Crocodiles in Cream proved to be a very successful evening. I was unsure prior to the performance what to expect. On entering the cathedral I found the simplicity of the “stage” with the backdrop of the magnificent pillars of the cathedral behind the set, quite profound and quite moving. Theatre Visit Thursday 5th July 2012

The Friends’ latest theatre trip was to see Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific at Leeds Grand Theatre last week. Anglo-Saxon Study Day Raises £500

Forty four Friends and guests, (not an empty seat), enjoyed a super day of lectures given by Professor Joyce Hill at Thorpe Prebend House on Saturday 23rd June 2012 for our latest fund-raising event. The day began at 9.30am and finished at 4.00pm. As well as providing tea and coffee with biscuits and cakes we also offered a buffet lunch which was accepted by 34 people.
