The Organ Restoration

As our contribution to the project to restore the organ, which was organised and funded by Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign (RCDC), the Friends agreed to finance the refurbishment of the organ casing above the screen.

While the RCDC project addressed the need for a complete overhaul and restoration of the working parts of  the organ, the casing was an essential aspect of this project as it is the outward symbol of the restored workings.

A celebration and re-dedication took place over the weekend of 7th – 9th February 2014.

“The refurbished casing presenta a bright new face to the Cathedral and the people,” says Toby Wallis, Chairman of the Friends of Ripon Cathedral. “While the organ refurbishment brings a new musical dimension to our worship, the restored casing stands as a symbol of, and tribute to, the hundreds of hours of skilled craftsmanship that were devoted to the project. The new musical brilliance has been matched by a new visual brilliance. The Friends are delighted to enable this important part of the organ restoration.”
