A Rare View of the Royal Portraits

Over 30 members were present on 28th November to celebrate the publication of the Royal Portraits booklet by the Friends at Minster House, by kind invitation of the Dean and Mrs Jukes.

A group of members discussing the relative merits of the portraits with the assistance of the Royal Portraits booklet.

The guests included the four members most closely associated with putting the booklet together over the past twelve years: Brian Carroll, Maurice Taylor, Kathleen McIntyre and Ian Stalker.

The great sadness was that Miss Mary Mauchline, sometime member of the Friends Council and Editor of the Annual Report, who had produced the commentary to accompany fund-raising tours in 1980 had died, aged 97, shortly before its publication. Her memory was honoured in a tribute by Kathleen McIntyre, her former student and carer after Mary’s return to Scotland; and by Brian Carroll who recounted his ‘discovery’ of the text while stewarding for a Heritage Open Day event in the year 2000.

Every portrait in the Minster House collection is reproduced in an A5 page full colour photograph with commentary adjacent. The booklet is available from the Cathedral shop, price £3.75.
